die beschreibung:
A rare opportunity to buy an extremely sound and original Austin 7 Tourer for restoration. This lovely little factory-built Seven is considered by many Austin 7 enthusiasts to be the most attractive and usable of all the many different Austin 7s produced over its 18-year history. It is much roomier than the earlier and cramped short chassis models, yet retains the vintage charm with exposed radiator, near-vertical windscreen and d-shaped back. The tourer is much scarcer than the saloon version and much more fun to drive. This particular car has the exposed vertical seams at the rear of the body, either side of the spare wheel, a feature which disappeared by 1933. This car comes without any paperwork.
I purchased this Austin from the estate of an old gentleman who had owned it for many many years; back in the 1940s or 1950s he had had the idea of fitting the body to a short chassis – heaven knows why. He removed the bulkhead (the front of the body, under the bonnet, that separates the body interior from the engine compartment) and the font part of the floor. I have gone to a lot of trouble to acquire an original section of bodywork from another late-1932 car. This replacement is sound and rust-free. It is an easy task for anyone with a little welding skill to assemble without any trace of a repair.
The rest of the body is remarkably rust-free. The parts usually prone to rust and difficult to repair (bottoms of door posts, wheel arches) are virtually perfect. The bonnet has been repainted blue, the rest of the body amazingly still has its original 1932 maroon paint. The hood is still the original 1932 black rexine, and although lacking the centre section of fabric, it provides what could well be the only original hood that can bused as a pattern for an exact replacement. The side screens too are original, though in need of re-covering. Also present are the original and rare lamps. Only one rear lamp was fitted originally; I have found a second one to make it legal.
I purchased this car with the intention of restoring it and using it myself, but I managed recently to re-purchase an identical Austin 7 which had been my very first car as a 17-year old, back in the 1960s. Hence the reason for sale. As far as I am aware the car is complete (except for parts which are always renewed in a restoration – wiring, carpet); it has been temporarily re-assembled after beig dismantled. It would need a full restoration, but this would be a relatively easy project for a car as original as this is. Bear in mind that many of the other „restored“ cars offered for sale have paint jobs that cover up serious rust, cracks and holes, and much of the „restoration“ is so poor or out of keeping that it needs doing again within a very short time. You can easily spend as much on a „restored“ car as you would on this.
