1962 SABRA CONVERTIBLE

The Sabra was born when Autocars, an Israeli firm, commissioned Reliant, a British car company to build them a sports car. The Sabra Sport was to be sold as a new entry in the growing US sports car market in the early 1960’s. Total production is estimated at 208, with 55 sold in the UK under the name of Sabre, and 153 were exported to the US under the name of Sabra. The Sabra Sport was introduced at the 1961 New York Auto Show. The car came with either a removable hardtop as seen here or a convertible top- not both. This car was brought into the country by a Florida dealer in 1962. The dealer never sold the car and kept it in storage for more than 40 years. When discovered by it’s first real owner in 2000 the car had just 40 miles on the odometer. It was a new car that had never been used or titled. However, because of the climate in which it was stored in Florida, the cars finish had deteriorated and hence the car was in need of some light cosmetics. Well, light cosmetics turned into a full bore restoration and the result is a spectacular concours quality car. Much of the car is untouched original. Items that showed deterioration were restored to a spectacular level and the result is a car that is far better than when first produced. The rare and unusual Sabra has been shown at national concours events throughout the United States. It is a consistent winner and was awarded its AACA Senior at Hershey, PA, its AACA Grand National Award in North Carolina in 2002 and its Senior Grand National in 2004. It was also chosen for an AACA National Award (The Emmert Swigert Memorial Cup) in 2002. Not only it is one of the rarest sports cars, but it is also one of the best restorations you will ever see.
